A part of Development Services, the Engineering Department provides engineering and surveying services necesary for the design and construction of streets, sidewalks, storm drainage lines, water lines and sanitary sewer lines within public rights-of-way and new subdivisions to assure conformance with City standards.  Engineering services include project design, preparation of plans, specifications and contract documents, and provision of construction phase contract administration.

The department reviews subdivision plats, site plans and building permit applications for conformance with City standards.   They  administer the City's Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance and maintain files of elevation certificates.  Additionally, the Department receives petitions for street and utility improvements, prepare assessment rolls and maintain assessment files.
